Sizes, Finishes, Materials
We offer three sizes of weathervane, as follows:
PETITE: Measuring 16" across the cardinal points, this size is suitable for sheds, greenhouses Pergolas, conservatories or small garages and outbuildings. These are finished in a durable black powder coating. Petite weathervanes have a single ended scroll, as below.
Most, but not all of our 1200 designs are available in petite size. Banner style weathervanes and some of the more intricate designs are not available in petite size - if in doubt, please contact us.
This size is available with two styles of fitting bracket.
MEDIUM: Measuring 21.5" across the cardinal points and suitable for use on garages, stables, bungalows and other single storey buildings. Available with a choice of finish and letter style, we offer over 1200 designs, all individually made to order. These have a choice of 5 different fixings - see below. (The fixing options for these are not the same as for petite weathervanes)
LARGE: Measuring 27.5" across the cardinal points and suitable for use on large barns and other two storey buildings. Available with a choice of finish and letter style, we offer over 1200 designs, all individually made to order. These have a choice of 5 different fixings - see below. (The fixing options for these are not the same as for petite weathervanes)
Two basic finishes are available
Economy Finish All laser cut components are first grit blasted to prevent oxidisation of the edges. They are then treated with an iron phosphate dip before being finished with a black polyester powder coat
Deluxe: To make our weathervanes truly weather-resistant we offer a de-luxe finish as follows:
Deluxe Finish - all sizes and house signs: The weathervane is plated with a layer of zinc to BS1706 and then passivated for extra protection. It then has a zinc rich epoxy powder coat and a final black polyester powder coat. We believe this is the best finish available anywhere today.
We would recommend the Deluxe finish for coastal locations or for where the vane is installed in an inaccessible position. It is worth bearing in mind that the extra cost of the deluxe finish will almost certainly be less than the cost of erecting ladders or scaffolding for re-painting.
A note about Powder coating in general: Not all powder coating is the same - unless the base metal has been given a thorough anti-corrosion treatment, such as zinc plating, powder coating will last no longer than a wet paint finish. There are also different grades of powder - we can give further technical details of the materials we use if required.
