HOW ITS MADE

Below we explain our process to building a quality classic working weathervane which will last for many years of functionality and enjoyment.

  • 1st STAGE - LASER CUTTING

Your chosen design is sized in CAD and sent to laser cutting to maintain accuracy and fine details.

  • 2nd STAGE - FABRICATION

The NSEW and chosen mount is fabricated. Scrolls are wound by hand, cardinal bars are cut to size and welded to the mounting collars, NSEW lettering welded on along with the under scrolls.

Now the sail bar. The chosen laser cut design is welded to the sail bar. It is built with a weighted arrow and the balance point marked. The socket for the mast is welded on at the balance point which will house the steel bearing. Balance is important as this ensures an easy reliable turning wind direction arrow.

  • 3rd STAGE - ELECTRIC PLATING

The completed weathervane is taken for a hot bath. Zinc electric plating with a following passivate treatment. Electric plating is regarded as having 30 years of rust & corrosion protection.

ALL our weathervanes are electric plated. Non electric plated steel vanes typically last 2 years before rusting occurs.

  • 4th STAGE - POWDER COATING

The now electric plated parts are treated to some powder coating with black polyester powder paint cured at 200c. This adds even further to the weather resistance and also gives the final black finished look.

  • 5th STAGE - ARTIST PAINTING

If you have chosen an artist painted design. This is when we pass the sail bar design to our local artist who works their magic using enamel sign writing paints for durability. Some time and care is taken as they build the picture twice, once for each side.

Customisation can be added as a great personal touch, a significant date or the design painted to your own photo, be it a pet, a boat with sail numbers, aircraft with call sign. Contact with requirements.

  • 6th STAGE - CHECK AND SHIP

All finished products are checked, wrapped and boxed up before shipping out.

Within the UK it is sent by courier. Else where the best service is chosen depending on the country. We can ship worldwide.
