How it's Made

From Sketch to Sky: The Journey of Your Weathervane

A look behind the scenes at our traditional craftsmanship and meticulous process.

We take pride in creating weathervanes the old-fashioned way, using time-tested techniques and the finest materials. Here's a closer look at the six-stage process that brings your weathervane to life:

  • 1. Laser Cutting

Your chosen design is precisely sized using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and then sent to a laser cutter. This ensures accuracy and maintains the fine details of your design.

  • 2. Fabrication

NSEW and Mount: The North, South, East, and West directional markers (NSEW) and your chosen mounting bracket are fabricated.

Scrolls and Bars: Scrolls are hand-wound, cardinal bars are cut to size and welded to the mounting collars, and the NSEW lettering is welded on along with decorative under scrolls.

Sail Bar: The laser-cut design you selected is welded to the sail bar, which is built with a weighted arrow for balance. The balance point is marked, and the socket for the mast, which will house the steel bearing, is welded on. Achieving perfect balance is crucial for a smoothly turning wind direction arrow.

  • 3. Electric Plating

The completed weathervane takes a hot bath in a zinc electroplating solution, followed by a passivation treatment. This process provides exceptional protection against rust and corrosion for up to 30 years, far exceeding the two-year lifespan of unplated steel weathervanes.

  • 4. Powder Coating

After electroplating, all parts are powder coated with a durable black polyester powder paint cured at high temperatures. This further enhances weather resistance and gives your weathervane its sleek, finished look.

  • 5. Artist Painting (if applicable)

Local Expertise: For weathervanes with a custom-painted design, the sail bar is passed on to our skilled local artist.

Durable Paints: They use high-quality, enamel sign writing paints to create your design, meticulously hand-painting it on both sides of the sail bar.

Customization Options: We can personalize your weathervane with a special date, a design based on your photo (pet, boat, aircraft, etc.), or any other unique touch.
